Oliver
Christmas of 2013 would prove to be a fateful day for the Irizarry family.
Oliver, then 6, couldn't wait to ride his new bike.
Racing against his cousin, he skidded into an active turkey fryer.
The scalding oil burned 20 percent of his body and he was med-flighted to Tampa Children's Hospital.
The family had no medical insurance – in the end, bills totaled over $137,000.
The family is working with a case worker to manage their financial woes and Oliver is on the mend despite – to this day – having several skin graft operations.
“Whatever it takes,” Kim, Oliver's mother, said.
