Hero
The night of Nov. 7, 2008 will never be forgotten for Kara Kevorkian, right, and her daughter Netaya, 17, both then of Nashua. Kara was shot by ex-boyfriend Juan Mateo Sanchez, 45, with a .357-caliber handgun. Sanchez faces 20-50 years in prison for attempted murder after shooting her six times at point blank range. Kara lay in a pool of blood while her daughter performed CPR and called 911, saving her life. On the center of Kara's back, a bullet wound can be seen where a bullet narrowly missed her spine. "She did not panic, that's why she's my hero," Kara said. "I would not have made it unless she put air in my lungs and called 911." Here they are seen in a portrait at Greeley Park in Nashua.
